The purpose of the Cobb Mountain Elementary school garden is to create and sustain an inviting, engaging and instructive outdoor organic classroom for the education and pleasure of our students. The garden will be used to supplement and enhance our core curriculum in addition to producing nutritious, sustainably grown produce for the cafeteria and community. Students, teachers and community members will be involved in every aspect of the garden’s growth and development including learning about nutritious food choices, planning the garden, planting, tending, harvesting and preparing healthy foods.
The Cobb School Garden Club
The garden at Cobb Mountain Elementary School was established in 1986, by school faculty and community volunteers. Dedicated teachers and parents have kept the program alive through private fundraising, events hosted by the Garden Club, and generous donations from the community.
Our main fundraiser is the Crab Boil event every winter, at the Moore Family Winery. A silent auction and dessert auction raise the necessary funds to pay our Garden Coordinator’s salary and keep the program moving forward. It is our hope that one day the Middletown Unified School District will incorporate this program within their annual budget.
The Garden Club has been supported by countless volunteers over the decades, for which we are very grateful. These are the current Club officers:
Chair- Cindy Leonard
Vice Chair- Gabriella Moore
Secretary/Treasure- David Leonard
Garden Coordinator- Jessica Pyska
