Chilly days in the garden call for brewing up a warming pot of chai. The kids learn to identify the spices by their scent, as well as which part of the plant they come from.  We like to smell the chai, and see if we can notice the different spices.  We have found that good conversations pair perfectly with our homemade chai.

This recipe is a new favorite, we hope you enjoy it as much as the kids at Cobb School do!

Cobb School’s Favorite Chai

  • 10 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup sliced fresh ginger
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 6 cardamom pods
  • 2 star anise
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 bags of decaffeinated black tea

Pour the water into a large pot and bring to a simmer.  Add the spices and simmer 10 minutes. Add the the sugar, stirring until dissolved.  Remove from the heat and add the milk and tea bags.  Let steep 5 minutes.  Serve chai in a mug and enjoy!
